The photo appears to show scared looking soldiers, hiding behind barbed wire, being faced by masked monks. It is the latest chapter in the increasingly bizarre Dhammakaya story. What the military are doing there is an unanswered question. It is supposed to be the police arresting a monk for fraud.
Another theory has just been put forward and that is that some of these monks are skinheads from Glasgow. They have been "putting the nut" on the police who have soft hats. The soldiers were called in because they have helmets.

Police in Lampang’s Thoen district seized about three million methamphetamine tablets from a pickup truck after the driver crashed the vehicle through a road barricade and was forced to a stop after its tires were punctured with police gunshots.
A confused looking Yingluk Shinawatra finds herself surrounded by ordinary people who do not even acknowledge her existence. Normally Yingluk is surrounded by a huge crowd of well orchestrated, adoring, supporters dressed as farmers.
The photograph turned up on the social media without much explanation. Its not clear whether this was a publicity stunt gone horribly wrong or not. However, Bangkok roads are permanently gridlocked due to the incompetence and corruption of successive governments going back as far as anybody can remember. It is, therefore, quite possible that mass transit is now Yingluk’s only way to get to the hairdressers/spa/shopping mall. Isn’t it supposed to be the other way round? People are supposed to flee Military Dictatorships to go to a Democracy. We live in confusing times.
Clearly a wall is needed. But should it be a Trump style wall, built by the Thais to keep the Burmese out. Or should it be Berlin Wall style, built by the Burmese to keep their workers in? |
